Former Presidential Candidate Abducted In Kogi

Ganiyu Galadima, a former presidential candidate and national chairman of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has been kidnapped in Kogi state.

Galadima contested the 2015 presidential election that saw to the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in March 28 but later return to pilot the affairs of his party, ACPN after he lost the election.
Vanguard reported that the politician was kidnapped in Obajana in Osaro, in Kogi state while he was on his way to Ilorin, Kwara state for his elder brother burial.

This ugly incident was confirmed by national chairman of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Peter Ojonugwa Ameh saying “My colleague has been kidnapped.”

In Lagos NSCDC arrests police officer, 7 others with 496 kegs of petroleum products

Abafi said that eight suspects, including a police officer were arrested by a team of the Anti-Vandal Unit of NSCDC at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 2.
 

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday said it had arrested a police officer and seven others suspected to have 496 25-litre kegs of petroleum products.

The Lagos State Commandant of the corps, Mr Grabriel Abafi, made the disclosure while speaking with journalists.

Minister Defends Buhari, Says Foreign Trips Not Frivolous

Following these trips made by the president in his six months in office, many Nigerians have lamented that Buhari’s travels are frivolous.

But the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, said the trips by the president are critical to the implementation of government key policies to enhancing security, jump-starting the economy, creating jobs and fighting corruption.

”Nigerians, whether in the ruling or the opposition parties, have a right to ask questions about the activities of their President, but it is absolutely important that they do so from an informed, rather than partisan or sensational, standpoint,” Mohammed said.

The minister also said that president Buhari’s trips are already yielding positive results especially in the fight against insurgency and corruption.

Buhari Is Not Violating Any Law - Presidency

Presidency on Friday, December 4, 2015 said that President Muhammadu Buhari has not breached any law by not submitting Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF)‎ to National Assembly for consideration .

In a press briefing in Abuja by Ita Enang, the senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, he said that the date of which the budget will be laid will be communicated in a few days.

The MTEF document according to law was supposed to have been submitted for approval by August 2015 in line with the four months to the end of the financial year requirement stipulated in the Fiscal Responsibility Act.‎

NDLEA: Agency intercepts 162.6 kgs of cannabis in Jigawa

The statement said that the suspects were arrested on Dec. 1 by men of the command along the Auyo-Kafin-Hausa road in Auyo Local Government Area of the state.

The Jigawa Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday said it had arrested three suspects with 162.650 kg of cannabis in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Zubairu Kassim, the Public Relations Officer of the command, and made available to newsmen in Dutse.

Senior European official: ISIS wants to hit UK; trail for Salah Abdeslam is cold

The trail for the eighth Paris attacker, Salah Abdeslam, has gone cold, a senior European counterterrorism official told CNN late Thursday, who also said intelligence indicates ISIS wishes to strike the United Kingdom as a followup to its recent attack in France. 

European security agencies have had no trace of Abdeslam since he was dropped off by a friend in the Brussels district of Schaerbeek on November 14, the day after the attacks. The official said late Thursday investigators now believe he developed cold feet about blowing himself up in Paris.

"He was freaking out, he was scared when he called his friends in Brussels to come and pick him up that night from Paris," the official told CNN.

The official said he believed ISIS might not welcome him back into the fold, even if he was able to reach Syria.

IPOB Accuses APC Gov Of Onitsha Bloodbath

The members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of standing behind the death of pro-Biafra supporters.

Thousands of members from the IPOB and other pro-Biafrans took to the streets of Onitsha on December 2 calling for the release of their leader Nnamdi Kanu.

At least nine people have supposedly been killed and 18 sustained different degrees of injuries by the Nigeria’s Joint Military Task Force during a pro-Biafra protest in Anambra state.

Emma Powerful, the spokesperson of IPOB in the state, revealed this while speaking to the reporters in Onitsha.

He said that it was a calculated plan by the APC administration in the country which became anxious with their peaceful and non-violent protests in South East, and had been looking for a way to incite violence in their protests to justify the continued detention of their leader.

NOUN Director Condemns Call For Students Unionism

Following the clamour for the existence of students’ union government within National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abdullahi Abubakar, the director of the Dutse study centre in Jigawa state on Friday, December 4, dismissed the call by the students to have a union.

According the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the Dutse director said that the institution was unlike other conventional universities in Nigeria where their students were domiciled in one place and shared common feelings and aspirations among themselves.

Abubakar noted that under the Open University system, every student was to himself or herself and that it wasn’t necessary for them to know one another as the university’s centres are scattered all over the country.

The scholar, who was the pioneer Pro Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-ode, died December 2, at the age of 68 years. He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

A Nigerian preacher was asked to get off a bus in London for preaching on the bus.

From the few seconds’ video obtained from Twitter, the Nigerian preacher who didn’t see anything wrong in preaching in the moving bus told his fellow passengers to hear him out “because I am preaching the word of life.”

Akufo Has Potentials To Outperform Buhari- Policy Analyst

Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, chief policy analyst at the Ghana institute for public policy options has said he believes President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance in Africa can be surpassed.

Nigeria, US, Others Call For More Efforts To End Insurgency In Africa

The Nigerian Government, United States and others have called for more joint efforts to put an end to insurgency in Nigeria and other African countries, saying that the recent terrorist attacks around the world attest to the global reach of terrorism and the interconnectedness of all communities.

Speaking in her national capacity during a recent briefing of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Sahel, the Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Professor Joy Uche Ogwu, said she saw merit in increasing the frequency of the Council’s engagement with the Special Envoy, stressing that the activities of armed groups required close cooperation among countries in the region.

Through the Lake Chad Basin Commission, countries were collaborating in a multinational joint task force to defeat Boko Haram, she said, adding that territory had been reclaimed from that group, while education and other activities had resumed in liberated areas.

Wanted ‘Potential’ child suicide bomber arrested in IDP Camp

The youngest face on the photograph of 100-wanted Boko Haram suspect, Master Usman Modu Tella, 11 years old, was yesterday arrested by soldiers in one of the camps for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Maiduguri, Borno State, army authority has said.


The young boy, who said he was in the camp to carry out suicide at attack at a future date, told those who apprehended him that some Boko Haram bomb experts had trained him and three other kids. According to him, three of his trained colleagues had since been killed in the various suicide attacks they were sent to carry out. Young Usman, who said he came from Bama town, was picked from among other kids at the Dalori IDP camp in Maiduguri.

Again Court Adjourns Hearing On Dasuki Case

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, December 3, adjourned hearing on the case against the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Justice Ademola Adeniyi after hearing submissions of both counsels said hearing will continue on Tuesday, December 8.

The prosecuting counsel, Oladipo Okpeseyi informed the court that he has filed an application for the stay of the execution of the case before it.

But Ahmed Raji, the defending counsel while confirming the receipt of the application said the issue raised by his colleague is not scheduled in the matter for the day.
To this Okpeseyi in his defence said that the court’s order that the travel documents of Dasuki be released was respected.

War On B'Haram: Victims Task Army

Following the presidential directive to the Nigerian army to flush out Boko Hrama insurgency by the end of December, a group has called the army to redouble its efforts at meeting the deadline.

The group known as Bomb Blast Victims Association of Nigeria made this request in a signed statement bt it chairman, Kayode Olatunji on Wednesday, December 2, Daily Post reports.
Olatunji charged the army to step up its surveillance and information gathering on the activities of terrorists during festive period.

The group pledged with Nigerians to support the fight against insurgency as terrorism constitutes a major threat to the country’s peace.
It said: “This fight is for our corporate existence and survival as a nation,”

“Putting an end to insurgency was surely one of the reasons why Nigerians massively voted for the present Muhammadu Buhari-led Administration of the All Progressive’s Congress, APC.”

A: Well I am not yet there but I will surely be in Senegal. I have to make arrangements with my people from Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and other African countries that are close to Senegal.
I am going to be there. We have just played a match against Mali and we are to play Egypt next. I do know that my men will be there before the Egypt game, but I will leave Nigeria for Senegal on Friday December 4.

Certainly YES! They will be there.
How can you rate Samson Siasia’s performance so far, despite his mother was kidnapped and later freed?

We really need to appreciate Siasia for being steadfast. Not many people will be in such a situation and will still have that frame of mind to want to serve Nigeria in that capacity.

He has given it his best and has been professional. He is someone that has shown great love for his country. Thank God the mother has been released, and I believe from now, he  will start to do a better job.
I watched the Nigerian team against Mali and after we had three goals in the first half,  the second half was not too good for us. Infact I was panting.

Dasuki: Prosecute Jonathan, Okonjo-Iweala - Oshiomhole

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has advised the federal government to prosecute former president Goodluck Jonathan and immediate past finance minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

This is coming following the arrest of the former national security adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) by the Department of State Security (DSS) yesterday, December 1, in the on-going arms deal investigation.

According to Oshiomhole, Jonathan and Okonjo-Iweala should be prosecuted since it had been established that they made approvals for which billions of dollars released for the procurement of arms for counter-terrorism operations under Jonathan, Leadership reports.


Speaking in an interview with the media organization, Oshiomhole said that both Jonathan and Okonjo-Iweala should be prosecuted after Dasuki’s disclosure of receiving an extra-budgetary allocation of $2.1 billion from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) within nine months following the approval of Jonathan.

The Edo state governor further suggested that the Nigerian constitution does not empower the president to spend money not appropriated by the National Assembly, hence, his demand for Jonathan’s prosecution.

He said: “The issue is whether the Nigerian President under the constitution has the power to approve funds belonging to local, state and federal government- funds that have not been appropriated by the National Assembly. 

Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Kill Delta Man

 

Tragedy struck in Ofagbe community, Isoko North local government area in Delta when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked and killed a palm wine tapper while also seriously wounding another.

The Vanguard reports that the 30 year old tapper simply identified as Mr. Inibu had gone to the bush to tap wine along the community road to Ashaka on Tuesday, December 1 when the herdsmen ambushed and killed him.


Othuke Omejedo who is the Olotu-Logbo of the Ofagbe kingdom confirmed the incident. He said a market woman was the first to see the lifeless body and ran to him to report it.

“One woman ran to me that as she was going to the market, she met the lifeless body of a boy lying on the ground on the road leading to Ashaka. She said another one was injured.”

He said the injured person; Mr. Thompson Ogege was taken to a hospital for treatment while the deceased was taken to a mortuary in Ozoro.

Canadian Government To Deport 250 Nigerian Students

Barely a week after about 48 Nigerians were deported from the United Kingdom, more than 200 Nigerian students schooling in Canada may soon be sent back to the country.

According to The Cable, the students will soon be deported because the Rivers state government has failed to fund their scholarships.

US Sanctions B'Haram

The United States of America has imposed sanctions on two leaders of the deadly Boko Haram sect.

Two leaders of the group in Africa were named for economic sanctions as both are closely engaged in deadly attacks in Nigeria.

The US Treasury said Mohammed Nur, the commander of the insurgents who has represented the sect during the peace talks with the Nigerian authorities, was put on its financial blacklist for his involvement in suicide bomb attacks, comprising one on the United Nations headquarters in Abuja in 2011.

It added that Nur “is a senior Boko Haram member who supports Boko Haram’s campaign of violence against the government of Nigeria.” 

The second Boko Haram leader put on the sanctions list is Mustapha Chad, a Chadian national who in 2013 commanded the activities of the group in Yobe state in northern Nigeria.
