Why APC Wants Dickson Disqualified

The battle for the Creek Haven government House in Bayelsa state is far from over as the Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the disqualification of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Seriake Dickson from the gubernatorial race.

The group’s demand was contained in a statement issued in Yenagoa, the state’s capital on Monday night, December 7, by its director of media and publicity, Chief Nathan Egba, a copy obtained by Daily Post.
The group reportedly called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify Governor Dickson from the gubernatorial race for alleged breach of electoral laws.

The Sylva/Igiri campaign organisation alleged that the incumbent governor’s conduct and comments constituted a breach of laid down laws guiding the conduct of elections in the country.

“We wish to condemn in very strong terms the serial breach of all known electoral laws by Governor Seriake Dickson.

“First, was his storming of the Yenagoa LGA Collation Centre on Saturday night after the election. The next day, Dickson was again at Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw LG calling for the postponement of the elections in the LGA.

“Secondly, over the past two days, Governor Dickson have on air in several radio stations in Yenagoa, inciting Bayelsans against the Federal Government and establishments,” he said.

The group’s spokesman also informed in the statement that the PDP flag bearer has been on air for the past two days, making provocative statements. Egba, however, urged Bayelsans to remain calm and pay deaf ears to the governor’s statements over an election that has been declared inconclusive by INEC.

He expressed shock that Dickson, who alleged to be winning in six out of the seven results so far announced, could still be complaining and calling for civil disobedience and protests.

Egba hinted that the party and its flag bearer, Chief Timipre Sylva have vetted the results so far announced and are prepared to admit the outcome of the rescheduled Southern Ijaw election in as much as it is free and fair.

The group’s mouthpiece alleged that the PDP governorship candidate has refused to accept his rejection by the Southern Ijaw people because of his desperation to hold on to power. Egba stated that Southern Ijaw, which is the strongest hold of the APC, is also the local government with the highest number of voters.

“The APC Campaign Organisation does not have any option at this point than to call for his outright disqualification from the Governorship race.

“This would mean that the APC candidate Chief Timipre Sylva would automatically become the Governor-Elect of Bayelsa State,” Egba said.

Premium Times Reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday,
December 7, nullified Saturday’s Bayelsa state governorship election in Southern Ijaw local government area following the irregularities and violence that took place there.

The decision has, however, irked some concerned Nigerians who took to their different social media platform to express their diverse thoughts on the development.
