Barely three days to the coronation and presentation
of staff of office to the New Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi,
the monarchs on the platform of the Osun state Council of Obas have
threatened that to shun the ceremony if not officially invited.
The monarchs disclosed that up until Thursday, December 3, the council which brings them together had not been formally given any invitation for an occasion slated for Monday, December 7, Leadership reports.
Marvelled at the negligence on the part of the central planning committee of the coronation ceremony, the chairman of the state council of Obas, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, said that unless the council receives a formal invitation letter from the committee of the event, the royal fathers may not attend.
This disclosure on the issue of the Ooni’s coronation came shortly after he emerged as the substantive chairman of the Osun state council of Obas.
Aromolaran said: “We are not babies neither are we kids. If we are not invited, we will remain where we are, unmoved.” “If we are invited, we will attend and if not, we will not be in attendance,” New Telegraph reports.
The Oba further said: “If we are invited with invitation card or letter, we would attend after consulting with the governor. As at the time we concluded the meeting of Osun council of Obas today (Thursday), we have not received any invitation from Ile-Ife about Monday’s coronation.
“Unless, the council receives formal invitation letter from the central planning committee of the event, they may not attend.”
The presentation ceremony by Governor Rauf Aregbesola is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country and abroad. Queen of England, Elizabeth Alexander, and President Muhammadu Buhari are expected to be in attendance.
According to the chairman, media committee of the coronation, Biyi Odunlade, the queen might be represented at the ceremony.
However, Oba Ogunwusi Ojaja II had on a Monday, November 23, been presented with Aare crown after coming out for the first time following the 21-day traditional rites to the throne.
