Nigerian major newspapers today, December 14, focused on the military raid in the residence of Nigeria Shi’ite leader, Sheik Ibraheem Zakzaky, as his whereabout remains unknown and the ongoing arms probe deal involving the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
Vanguard reports that no fewer than 20 members of the Shi’ite sect were killed, yesterday, December 13, as the Nigerian military cracked down on the sect for blocking the highways during their public procession in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The sect, however, claimed that hundreds of its members were killed by soldiers who stormed three of its locations with heavy military weapons. It was gathered that the  troops engaged members of the sect throughout the night as heavy shootings and sounds of explosions were heard in Gyallesu and Sokoto Road, where Hussainiyya – the spiritual centre of the sect – is located.

ARMY, BORNO RESIDENTS ON BUHARI BH DEADLINE

Residents of Borno state, which is known as the epicenter of the insurgency, have commended Nigerian army and said they are happy with the progress made by the troops in the front line.

Speaking about the December 31 deadline, the residents said that they would be full of joy if they wake up on the last day of December to see Boko Haram fizzle out. However, most of them also understand that the insurgency that existed for over six years could not be wiped out completely in three months.

Speaking with Leadership, Comrade Zanna Shettima, a former Borno state labor leader and medical health practitioner stressed that “the military has done very well if we must compare the situation we have now, with what was obtained in the past years”.

“Even God will not be happy with us if we should go to town condemning the military after what they have helped our troubled state to achieve in terms of peace and security.

UYO STATE GOVERNOR TO POUNCE ON PROSTITUTES

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has moved to evacuate commercial sex workers from the streets of Uyo, the state capital, NAN reports.
This was disclosed by the Dr. Glory Edet, the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Akwa Ibom.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with representatives of female students in tertiary institutions in the state, Edet said that prostitutes constituted nuisance along the streets of the state capital and this is not good for the image of the state.

Nigerian Army Kills Fleeing BH at PULKA

Nigerian army has intercepted fleeing Boko Haram insurgents that attempted to escape from bombardment on Sambisa forest.

The insurgents were running through Pulka. The military decisively dealt with Boko Haram members in blocking position in the area.

Colonel Sani Usman, army’s spokesman, in a statement said that during the encounter many of the terrorists were killed while one was taken alive.

The troops also recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun, several rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunitions, 47 rifle magazines, 36 hand grenades and quite a number of Shilka gun empty shells.
In the same vein, the soldiers have also dealt another decisive blow to the Boko Haram members at Buni Yadi general area on December 7, Monday.

B'Haram Kills 350 In Borno

Reports reaching from Borno state have it that dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram has killed 350 teachers and destroyed over 512 schools over the years.

According to Daily Sun, this was disclosed by the executive chairman, Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Shettima Bukar Kullima yesterday.

He disclosed further that if number is translated into classrooms, the terrorist group has destroyed over 1000 classrooms, as well as instructional materials for schools.

A stabbing at an exhibition in Miami was mistakenly thought to be a part of the performance art presentation by some of the patrons. According to Miami Herald, the incident took place in the Art Basel Miami Beach, US, on Friday, December 4, when two female patrons started fighting, which resulted into one woman being stabbed.
