Chelsea Reject £35.5m Mourinho Bid, Demands £71m

 

 Despite a nightmare start to the season, Jose Mourinho still remains one of the most sought managers in the game.

This follows reports that French Ligue 1 side Monaco have tabled a £35.5million for his service.

Abramovich is still hoping Mourinho can turn a horror season around and so, turned down an offer of £35.5million from Monaco for the Portuguese’s service.

However, with the thought of Champions League gradually slipping away and the Premier League crown almost a mission impossible, Abramovich has proposed a counter-offer worth £71million to Monaco, if they are keen on the Mourinho.

Alessandro Proto, an Italian businessman, minority shareholder in the club, claims to have met with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in London for talks about Mourinho’s availability.

“We offered 50 million euros to have the coach immediately, but the request was 100 million euros and the figure seems exaggerated,” he Spanish outlet EFE, as quoted by AS.

AS say that Proto met with Abramovich to make the offer and that Monaco are considering raising their offer as they regard Mourinho to be ‘the best coach in the world’.

According to Proto, Monaco isn’t the only team after Mourinho as one team from France, one team from Spain and one from the US would also be prepared to meet Abramovich’s asking price, although he did predict that Mourinho would be given more time at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho in a recent press briefing said: “I have four years. In this case, three years and seven months.

“Yes, I know why the results have been different but I can’t tell you because I’ll be here a long time. It’s a combination of factors. Some of them I can’t, I don’t even want to touch them — but yes I know.”

The Portuguese signed a new four-year contract at Chelsea in August that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2019.

Mourinho’s next two games will determine his future at Chelsea after a turbulent season took another turn for the worse with a 3-1 home defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.

That lacklustre loss left Chelsea languishing in 15th place in the English top-flight, with their six defeats from 11 games, eight in all competition and the worst start by defending champions in the Premier League era.

Mourinho will be due a sizable payout should his contract at Chelsea be terminated, but a major offer could tempt Abramovich into parting company with the Blues’ most successful manager.
