Senate confirms AMCON MD, Executive Directors, Mourns Audu's Death

The Senate on Thursday November 26 2015 confirmed the appointment of a Managing Director and four Executive Directors of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON).
Those confirmed include Ahmed Kuru as Managing Director, Kola Ayeye, Eberechukwu Uneze and Aminu Ismail as Executive Directors of the company.


Their confirmation also followed the consideration of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial institutions who had earlier screened the appointees.



The Senate read for a second time, a Bill for and Act to Ensure Full Integration of Persons with Disabilities into the Society and to Establish a National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.


The bill sponsored by Francis Alimikhena representing Edo North senatorial district and Deputy Majority Whip, seeks socio-economic protection, education and health care for persons living with disabilities.



Also, the senate also mourned the death of Abubakar Audu, the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday governorship election in Kogi State.


The senate observed a minute silence in honour of the late Audu and prayed for the repose of his soul.

However, the lawmakers resolved to send a high-power delegation led by Bukola Saraki, the president of the senate, to commiserate with the government and people of Kogi State as well as his immediate family.

The senate also urged the federal government and the government of Kogi State to immortalise the late former governor.


Meanwhile, the Senate passed four bills for first reading.They include the Companies Income Tax Act (Amendment) Bill 2015 and Communication Service Tax Bill, 2015 for first reading.

Others include the Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 (Amendment) Bill, 2015; Constituency Development Catalyst Fund Bill 2015 and Renewable Energy Bill 2015.
