The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) governorship candidate in the December 5 election, Moses Siasia flagged off campaign for his governorship bid on Saturday, November 7 with a walk with youths of the state.
Moses who is 35 years old walked from his campaign office to the Samson Siasia stadium, a stadium named after his elder brother, Samson Siasia.
Addressing his supporters who came out in their thousands, Moses reiterated that his administration will focus on a two-point agenda of job creation and education. Moses said it was time for the glory of Bayelsa to shine. He added that haven achieved so much in business employing over 400 young Nigerian professionals with 70 Bayelsans on his pay roll, he was poised to turnaround the fortune of Bayelsa.
“Past leaders of Bayelsa State have failed because they lacked the capacity to think positively to bring about development. I will increase the state’s internally generated revenue from N50 million to N5 billion per month if elected.
My administration will diversify the state’s economy through agriculture and tourism to make Bayelsa an economic pace setter in the South-South geo-political zone. I will increase workers’ minimum wage from N18,000 to N25,000, while there would be prompt payment of gratuity to pensioners.”
On education he said there would be free education for primary and secondary school pupils across the state, while bursary for students in the institutions of higher learning would be increased by 100 per cent as he equally promised to increase power supply by 80 per cent, while the state would have an International Airport within the period of two years of his government.
Speaking on the composition of his government if elected, Moses said he would be the first governor to have a woman as deputy governor in Bayelsa, promising that women would occupy 40 per cent of his government.
He urged Bayelsans, particularly youths to avoid mortgaging their future with peanuts and vote their conscience during the election.
Also speaking during the flag off, the deputy governorship candidate, Mrs Irene Opuene urged the women not to vote for any other party than PDM.
“It is our turn to participate in government. I urge Ijaw women not to be misled by politicians that only deceive us and do not have plans for us. I’m a woman, I have plans for you women but it’s your vote that will make this plans materialize.”
She also urged the women to see Moses as their son who means well for them.
