Judgement Does Not Guarantee Us Victory- APC Gubernatorial Aspirant

The All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the April 11, 2015 elections, Mr Umana Okon Umana has said the recent judgement of the election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja is not favourable to the party (APC).

Speaking to his supporters who gathered at Nsima Ekere Campaign grounds along Edet Akpan Avenue in the state capital to receive him added that victory in the 18 local government areas where the tribunal has directed a re-run election may not be enough for him to become governor.

The governorship aspirant pleaded with the party faithful to remain calm and continue to pray for their case in the appeal court to be delivered in their favour.

“The judgement of the tribunal in Abuja is good. However, that judgement does not guarantee us victory. That is why we have appealed so that the elections can be cancelled completely. We are in the court of appeal and our prayers are for a total cancellation of the entire election. I solicit your prayers and supplication to God to see us through,” he said.

Also speaking, a political bigwig of the party in the state, Otuekong Sunny Jackson tasked the party faithful not to go to sleep because the tribunal had ordered a re-run in 18 local government areas of the state.

He instead tasked the people to return to their wards and continue to mobilise as the party prays that it gets a favourable judgement from the court.

According to him, the supporters should pray along because the PDP is still in control in Akwa Ibom state since the APC cannot still gather enough momentum to take over.

The state’s governorship tribunal sitting in the Federal High Court, Abuja had on Wednesday, October 21 upheld the election of governor Udom Emmanuel, but ordered a re-run in 18 local government areas of the state.

Meanwhile, despite the Election Petitions Tribunal directive, ordering a re-run governorship election in 18 of the 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom, the state government has insisted that Udom Emmanuel is still the governor of the state.
